A few months ago at this event, I also bid and won a 3 night cabin retreat in the Northwoods of Minnesota.  Last weekend I cashed in my winning ticket and headed 4 hours out of town with 5 of the loveliest people I know.  We had grand plans of hiking and biking, canoeing and swimming, playing games and exploring.  In truth, we did some of those things, but with a lot less intensity.  What we did excel at with Olympian intensity was extreme relaxing.  Hot tubbing and floating, eating and sitting....it was a good week.  The one excursion that was made, not in the name of beer or food, was to Itasca State Park to see the Headwaters of the Mississippi River.
Itasca Lake.  This tiny lake is the start of the mighty river.
The mouth of the river is calm and shallow.
I hopped across easily!  I easily hopped across the Mississippi.  How cool.
The cabin was on Lake Beauty.  A tiny isolated lake without any cabins in sight from the water.  We didn't see another soul all week.
 There was kayaking and fishing.
 Delicious meals.
 Braceleting.
 Fire makin'
 Butterfly Releasin'
And a quick layover in quaint Park Rapids on the way back.
